Iraqi President Jalal Talabani discussed on Saturday with U.S. ambassador to Iraq James Jeffrey ways of boosting bilateral relations and the ongoing preparations to host the Arab summit in Baghdad next Thursday, according to a presidential statement.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “Talabani received the U.S. diplomat at his office in Baghdad Saturday night, and discussed with him ways of bolstering bilateral relations for the good of the two people,” said the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.The president underlined that all preparations completed and the summit will give indications that Iraq is ready to get its position back in the Arab arena.The ambassador said that there is an international and regional interest of the summit, wishing the Iraqi leaders all the best for a successful summit.Baghdad will host the 23rd Arab League Summit at the end of this month, and is the third Summit to be convened in Iraq.The previous summits were held in 1978 and 1991.The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced that 14 Arab leaders will attend, in addition to high ranking delegations from other participating countries./129
